Olympic medallist Vijay Kumar has bagged the
centre fire pistol gold in the 59th National shooting championship at
the Dr Karni Singh Range in Tughlakabad in New Delhi. Vijay Kumar scored
588 points and defeated Gurpreet Singh of the Army by two points as
Gurpreet Singh had scored 586 points. Gurpreet Singh, the rapid fire
specialist has secured a quota for the upcoming Rio Olympics but Vijay
Kumar has not yet secured a quota for upcoming olympics.

Facts about Vijay Kumar :
- Subedar Major Vijay Kumar AVSM, SM born on 19 August 1985 hails from Barsar village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.
- He had won the silver medal in the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and two gold medals at 2006 Commonwealth Games.
- He is a serving Subedar Major (Warrant Officer Class I) in the Dogra Regiment (16th Battalion) Indian Army and currently posted at Indian Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) Mhow since 2003 where he is being coached by the Russian Pavel Smirnov.
