Senior IAS officer Sailesh has been appointed as
the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India. The Appointments
Committee of Cabinet has approved the appointment of Sailesh as
Registrar General and Census Commissioner for a period till July 28,
2017.
Sailesh is a 1985 Batch Assam-Meghalaya
Cadre IAS officer and would be succeeding C Chandramauli, who completed
his central deputation tenure on 7 January 2016.
Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India:
- The post of the RGCC of India comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is usually held by a civil servant holding the rank of Joint Secretary to Government of India. It is is responsible for conducting the decennial Census.
- He/she heads the Census organisation (mentioned in entry 69 of seventh schedule of Constitution) which functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
